CHICAGO CITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION HONORS ROBOTICS TEAM

Chicago, IL – (May 20, 2015) – Chicago Math and Science Academy (CMSA)’s high school robotics team, the RoboTitans, were recognized by Mayor Emanuel and the City Council for their efforts with a resolution presented by Alderman Joe Moore. The resolution congratulated and “saluted them for their proud representation of our City’s youth on the world stage”. The RoboTitans were the only Chicago team to compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Robotics World Championship in April 2015. 128 teams from around the world competed for the honor of being the world’s best.

“Our students are very proud of the work they’ve accomplished this season. Going to the World Championships expanded their horizons as they met students from other countries and saw amazing robot design. The chance to make it this far into the season was truly an experience they will never forget, “states Principal Aydin Kara.

In addition to their mechanical expertise in building an award-winning robot, the RoboTitans also participated in many community outreach events to demonstrate that science and technology can be fun. This community engagement allows others to learn about robotics and while the students learn valuable skills set in the process”, states Principal Aydin Kara. “The participation in our community is very important to the team’s success and to CMSA’s mission”.

Students involved in FTC learn to apply real-world math and science concepts, develop program-solving, organizational and team building-skills, and are eligible for millions of dollars of scholarship funding. CMSA has a consistent track record in robotics achievements and regularly hosts FTC and FLL qualifiers at its campus.

CMSA is managed by Concept Schools, a Chicago-based, not-for-profit charter school management company with 30 charter schools in the Midwest region.
